Heading Towards the Future of Aged Care: Network Luncheon Round Up

on Wednesday, November 27, 2013

Over 40 aged care providers were represented at Aged Care Online’s Network Luncheon last Thursday, to promote the current technology developments of Web2TV, Aged Care Online and to discuss the place of social media in aged care.

Major developments for Web2TV, including a Web2TV app for users and the ability to insert video into the system was revealed.

Web2TV is an in-house TV service for residential aged care and retirement villages.

“It was interesting to see just as much excitement about the app as there was the ability for videos” said Technical Director of Web2TV Ben Stickland.“The app is technically a lot simpler to make and there’s a lot more programming work to build the video than the app. It was good to spend time with the user and see what’s good for them is not necessarily what’s technically hard (to make)” he said.

Mr Stickland said that the app was currently being tested and would most likely be available to users within a month.

“For the video, we’ll be testing in May and rolling out in June” he said.

Ben Hannemann, CEO of Web2TV and Director of Aged Care Online said that the Aged Care Online Network function was a great opportunity to connect and interact with their valued clients.

“It is a great opportunity for us to share our future plans for the Aged Care Online website and also introduce to them new services we have to offer, which this year has been our new Web2TV service” he said.

Mr Hannemann said he had also discovered that a lot of aged care providers had seen the move to social media as a positive thing.

“We are now seeing social media replacing old forms of communication such as hard copy newsletter and paper based noticeboards” he said.

Mr Hannemann described social media as the new ‘word of mouth.’

“In the past or perhaps currently, you would rely on someone telling someone else that you had a good facility, that the resident was happy… Facebook and social media is the way people are communicating now” he stressed.

“As a business Aged Care Online will be looking at the role of social media in aged care and further developing our website to utilise the technology over the next 12 months” he said.

Other presenters included Dana Sawyer, Director of Millennium Aged Care Placement Consultants who discussed their consultant, pre-planning and relocation services.
