Aged Care Sydney: New Grants to Help Seniors Stay Active

on Thursday, November 21, 2013

The Federal Government has opened applications for grants worth up to $20,000 for local community groups to deliver courses to seniors.

The grants are available to local community training providers and not-for-profit community groups in Sydney and are worth between $5,000 and $20,000.

“Lifelong learning is critical to remain active, healthy and engaged” said Federal Member for Sydney Tanya Plibersek.

The grants will be rolled out under the Federal Government’s Productive Ageing through Community Education grant program, and can be used to deliver courses on topics such as healthy living, foreign language learning, computer skills and volunteering among others to seniors.

“The Productive Ageing program is about providing more opportunities to take part in local courses tailored to the needs and interests of seniors” said Ms Plibersek.

“We all benefit from the immense value that older Australians add to our community, workplaces and economy” she said.

The grants will help expand face-to-face and online course offerings that support seniors to remain engaged in their community.

Up to 200 grants will be offered and those who qualify are able to apply through the Government’s website.
