Aged Care Melbourne: Broadband for Seniors Internet Kiosk Opened

on Thursday, November 21, 2013

Aged Care Provider TLC Aged Care has been one of the first providers to implement the Australian Government’s Broadband for Seniors program, an initiative which seeks to provide senior Australians with access to computers.

The initiative seeks to address isolation and help senior Australians stay up to date with technology. TLC Aged Care opened an internet kiosk for its residents last week as part of the initiative.

“It has opened up a whole new world for our residents who are learning new skills and interacting with the wider community” said Dr John Leaper, Chairman of TLC Aged Care.

Dr Leaper said that many residents have shown an interest, in particular a Chinese resident, Lin, who doesn’t speak English.

“With the help of a few links to Chinese sites Lin has been able to reconnect with speakers of his native language and enjoy news, movies and music. At the launch Lin had everyone crowd around to watch and listen to a wonderful Chinese singer, it was amazing how it brought everyone together” he said.

Dr Leaper and TLC Aged Care CEO Ingrid Williams attended the opening at the Noble Manor facility in Noble Park.

Nobile Manor is one of two TLC Aged Care homes in Noble Park, TLC Aged Care has nine homes located across Melbourne and Geelong.
