Aged Care Events Melbourne: Free Workshop for Professionals Working With Migrants

The Centre for Culture, Ethnicity and Health will provide free two hour workshops between May and October this year, to help staff in residential aged care communicate with residents with low English proficiency.

The workshop is open to professionals who work with clients of a culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and may be helpful to professionals such as GPs, reception and nursing staff in residential aged care and hospitals.

 

The training will teach participants how to:

  • Describe how culture influences health and health benefits
  • Strategies and systems for working effectively with an interpreter
  • Practice ways to communicate with clients with low English proficiency
  • Use cross-cultural negotiation strategies to influence patient’s decision-making process

The training sessions will run from 6pm-8:30pm across a variety of locations throughout Melbourne’s inner east, inner north west and north areas.
