on Friday, November 29, 2013

Keith Reid is officially Australia’s oldest sky diver, after completing a tandem skydive from 14,000 feet on his 90th birthday.

Despite being a World War Two Veteran, Mr Reid is not a veteran skydiver. In fact not only had he never tried skydiving before his 90th birthday, he had never set foot inside an aeroplane.

“When I told my son I wanted to skydive for my 90th he thought I was crazy,” said Mr Reid. “But I knew that this would be the perfect way to celebrate such a momentous birthday” he said.

Cheered on by family, friends and staff at Domain Macquarie nursing home where Mr Reid is a resident, Mr Reid completed his tandem skydive over Maitland which included a minute’s freefall before he parachuted to the ground.

“Sitting at the edge of the plane I felt an incredible adrenaline rush and the actual jump was the most exhilarating moment of my life. It was a truly spectacular experience,” said Mr Reid.

“At my age people think you’ve done and seen everything,” he said. “But you’re never too old to try something new.”

Domain Principal Place’s Facility Manager Darran Paul said Keith has an amazing zest for life and never lets anything hold him back,

“Keith has an amazing zest for life and never lets anything hold him back,” said Darran Paul, Domain Macquarie Place’s Facility Manager.
