How long do the courses run for?
The standard Aged Care Daytime courses run for a total of 10 weeks, but are flexible out to 16 weeks. This consists of 6 weeks full time classroom teaching and 4 weeks of full time unpaid work placement in an Aged Care facility. The evening courses run for a total of 16 weeks, consisting of 12 weeks in the classroom (only 2 evenings a week) and 4 weeks of full time work placement.
During the classroom period, students complete 2 days of manual handling training, a first aid and CPR certificate, and a total of 13 standard study units. They will also do a short work skills program and a 20 minute workshop per day, where they will have the opportunity to handle and use real life items that are commonly used in Aged Care facilities. This ensures that AustCare students get noticed by employers whilst on their job placements.
During the placement period, students are facilitated part time by AustCare trainers who aim to ensure that students feel comfortable and confident with the tasks required of them. Students are provided with AustCare polo shirts to be worn on placement.
AustCare provides pre-arranged placements for all of their students!
AustCare Training does the hard work for you. We have built strong relationships with the aged care facilities in our locations and have secured placement positions for our students.
