Australia’s Sapphire Holdings Group Enters the Chinese Aged Care Market

Sapphire International, part of the Sapphire Holdings Group has signed a joint venture agreement, which marks their entry into the Chinese market providing residential aged care based on the Australian standards and Sapphire's model of care, including quality standards, policies and procedures.

Sapphire Holdings Group and Sungin, a subsidiary company of the Fosun Group, signed a JV agreement at the Shanghai Bund Financial Centre on 16 May 2017. Both parties will form a JV company and will together develop a high-end aged care centre in Beijing. 

Alex Gong, senior vice president and executive director of Fosun Group, CEO of Fosun Property and Chairman of Sungin, and Ernest Medina, Managing Director of Sapphire Holdings Group, signed the joint venture agreement on behalf of both parties.

Alex Gong, made a statement at the signing ceremony. Alex described Fosun’s advantages in "Big-Health" industry, emphasizing their strategy to build an international health care system. Saying that partnering with Sapphire, an international Australian Aged Care group, will allow them to develop the first residential aged care home the "Fragrant Hill project " as the flagship site in the Haidian area of Beijing.

Alex also said Sungin’s goal is to build up a full continuum of health care products including community based care service, retirement and assisted living as well as residential aged care, and rehabilitative services to take advantage of the insurance and property resources within Fosun Group, and to build up the Big Health ecosystem to promote healthy living for all ages.

The Fragrant Hill Project is Sungin’s first high end aged care home located in Beijing, both parties have invested in this project, with Sapphire Care providing and overseeing the operations. The project is located in the historical royal recreation area in Beijing, which has irreplaceable culture and nature resources. The entire project of 8600sqm includes, 4 floors and 92 beds, with a significant amount of the space dedicated for communal living and activity areas. The project is aimed at achieving excellent quality services catering to this high-end aged care flagship initially in Beijing and expanding into Tianjing and Heibei regions and perhaps the entire China. 

In the signing ceremony, Mr. Ernest Medina, Managing Director of Sapphire Holdings Group, stated that this partnership with Sungin to penetrate into the China market was made after serious consideration of Sungin’s long term dedication in the healthcare field, he looks forward to growing alongside Sungin. Both parties together will provide great value and comprehensive collaboration jointly making the Sapphire Sungin's Beijing first aged care home a leader in taking the Australian model of care into China.
