Resthaven Aberfoyle Park Building Commences

on Tuesday, March 21, 2017

Earlier this month, the first sod was turned at the site of the next Resthaven residential aged care service, at Hub Drive, Aberfoyle Park in the Adelaide Hills.

Joining the official turf turning ceremony were Nat Cook MP, State Member for Fisher; Lorraine Rosenberg, Mayor of the City of Onkaparinga; Mark Porter, Resthaven Board President; Ben Sarre, Deputy Board President; Richard Hearn, Resthaven Chief Executive Officer; Tina Cooper, Executive Manager Residential Services; David Norton, Executive Manager Finance and Corporate Services; and Rev Dr Jonathan Davies, Senior Pastor of Seeds Uniting Church at Aberfoyle Park.

Mark Porter, Resthaven Board President, said, "I have worked in this area for over twenty-five years and have always found the landscape of Aberfoyle Park appealing. I’m sure that it was the surrounding hills, the pines, and the reservoir which put the 'happy' in Happy Valley."

"I was excited when the Board considered the plans for this new development. With its particular features, especially its openness and amenities, I believe Resthaven Aberfoyle Park will enhance the local area."

Designed by Brown Falconer Architects, the new $30 million home will accommodate 100 older people. Features include small ‘clusters’ of rooms with their own dining and lounge rooms, to encourage a sense of community. Other site features include a hairdressing salon, shop, meeting rooms, internet café, and secure landscaped areas with sensory gardens.

Residents from the adjoining Unity retirement village also attended and were very enthusiastic about the plans.

Richard Hearn, CEO, said, "I am delighted that so many from the community were able to join us for this official ceremony. We look forward to beginning a long lasting relationship with our neighbours."

"The local community will benefit from additional services for older people, volunteering and employment opportunities, and involvement with community groups."

Ideally located adjacent to shops, schools and retirement villages, the site will also offer around 100 long term jobs.

The site is expected to be opened in mid to late 2018.

A timelapse video showing the site’s progress will be uploaded to Resthaven’s YouTube channel each month. The first month’s video showing site preparation can be watched below:
