Coffee and Friends Make the Perfect Blend

on Tuesday, March 21, 2017

Patricia McDermott is 83 years young and has always started her day with a 6am coffee, the only difference is now she gets it delivered to her room with a smile. After moving from Townsville, Patricia is enjoying the service and the company of her new found friends at the Bupa Seaforth aged care home.

“I call this beautiful home the Seaforth Sheraton!” says Patricia, who moved to Seaforth to be closer to her daughter. “The staff are all wonderful and the home is first class. I have met so many new friends and we’re all young at heart. It feels a little like I’m on holiday”

Although Patricia misses her Townsville friends, she has been busy participating in various home activities and outings, attending daily physio exercise classes onsite, and enjoying a coffee with her new friends in the home, including Edie the dog who is fast becoming a favourite with residents.

Bupa Seaforth Care Manager Caitlin Rourke-Dunkley says Patricia is an inspiration. “She is full of energy and very sociable and this really has a positive effect on other residents in the home and how they engage with each other. Getting to know residents, their likes and dislikes also helps us tailor our care to suit their needs and preferences” said Caitlin. Bupa Seaforth can care for up to 76 residents in single ensuite rooms and has an onsite Medical and Wellbeing Centre that is also open to the general public.

General Manager Emma Kerr said she was excited that Seaforth has really embraced the aged care home and wellbeing centre, and Bupa’s focus to support the health needs of the community.  “I think it’s important to celebrate the individuality of our residents and that we focus on family and community inclusion to foster wellbeing and connection. We see our residents thrive in this type of environment”
