What Home Care Changes Mean for You

on Thursday, February 23, 2017

From 27 February 2017, older people who receive support at home through an aged care package will have more choices.

This is the date when the Australian Government’s Home Care reforms come into effect, aiming to improve the way home care packages are delivered to older people.

"The changes mean more people will be able to receive home care packages from Resthaven", Sue McKechnie, Resthaven Executive Manager, Community Services explains.

"As the largest home care package provider in South Australia, we are excited to be able to provide services to more older people in need across the state."

"Currently, there is a fixed number of packages. After the reforms comes into effect, packages will be allocated to individuals who can choose Resthaven to deliver a service to them."

"We will no longer be limited to a certain number of packages, so we’ll will be able to deliver home care to those people who choose Resthaven."

Home care packages are available on a ‘Consumer Directed Care’ basis. This means that people can consult with a service provider to design a plan of assistance that best meets their needs to support their quality of life.

Their individual funds budget can be used in a number of ways, such as for help around the home, gardening, meal preparation, medication management, transport to appointments and social events, shopping, access to professional nursing and allied health services, and mobility support equipment to assist with their quality of life.

Fees for government subsidised services are set by the government, with processes for supporting people of limited means.
