Bethanie Committed to Improving Wellbeing

on Monday, February 20, 2017

Bethanie, one of Western Australia’s most well-known not-for-profit aged care and retirement living providers will celebrate Purple Week from 20-27 February 2017.

The theme for this years Purple Week is ‘We take ownership for all our actions and responsibilities’ and will include seven days of activities that will inspire residents, staff and volunteers to reconnect spiritually, encourage greater compassion and respect and ultimately improve everyone’s wellbeing.

Bethanie sites across WA will take part in a number of purple-themed activities including a Purple BBQ, Purple Happy Hour and a number of Purple Morning Teas complete with purple cakes that residents have decorated. Purple decorations and purple outfits will also be on show throughout a number of the Bethanie sites, bringing together residents and staff and showing residents that at Bethanie, you’re amongst friends.

Bethanie Coordinator of Chaplains, David Van Leen said, “Purple Week is about acknowledging Bethanie’s Christian heritage, celebrating our commitment to providing spiritual care to all of our clients, as well as inspiring respect and kindness throughout the community.

“Our theme this year encourages all participants to take ownership for their actions and responsibilities, with this belief making up one of Bethanie’s six signature behaviors.

“Throughout the week we will be showcasing the work Bethanie does in support of this belief, as well as how it translates to our broader community.”

Bethanie CEO Chris How adds, “Chaplaincy is such a valuable part of Bethanie. Our Chaplains provide ongoing support and guidance to our clients, residents, families, staff and volunteers on their spiritual journeys.

“Purple Week allows Bethanie to thank our wonderful staff and volunteers for delivering spiritual care and the benefits the service provides to our residents and clients.”

Bethanie introduced Purple Week in 2011. Today, Bethanie employ six full-time, four part-time and several relief Chaplains whose services are provided complimentary to their clients.

Bethanie clients are encouraged to wear purple throughout Purple Week.
