Bethanie Committed to Helping Community Understand Changes to Home Care Packages

on Monday, February 27, 2017

Chief Executive Officer of Bethanie, one of Western Australia’s most well known not-for-profit aged care and retirement living providers, Chris How begun his career in the aged care industry at just 17 years old undertaking meal runs, resident care and assisting therapy assistants.

As our ageing population continues to grow, Chris says he is inspired about the possibilities and opportunities to do new and interesting things to support Western Australia’s over 55s.

“Working with seniors has given me a wonderful perspective on life. So many of them have done so much for our community and built the foundations that we continue to build on,” said Chris.

“At Bethanie we believe in offering not just services but a lifestyle for WA’s seniors. Each of our 24 centres provide an engaging and sociable environment while ensuring everyone in our care is treated with the best quality of services to maintain an active lifestyle surrounded by friends.”

In the 2015-16 Budget, the Australian Government announced significant reforms to home care. In the first stage of the reform process, from 27 February 2017, funding for Home Care Packages (HCP) will follow the consumer – allowing greater choice and flexibility in terms of their providers.

Chris says the change is highly positive for consumers as they can now choose to change their provider if they feel their current needs aren’t being met or if they would simply prefer a change.

“Bethanie is a leader in the field with a great reputation, offering a broad range of services spanning from social centres and independent living villages to residential and dementia care.

“Just like our Six Signature Behaviours state, at Bethanie we demonstrate that we are the best at what we do - and we will continue to deliver on this promise,” Chris continued.

As the reform takes place, Bethanie is committed to working with their clients and communities to help them understand the changes.
