New Appointments to the Aged Care Financing Authority

Assistant Minister for Health and Aged Care, Ken Wyatt AM, MP has announced three new appointments to the Aged Care Financing Authority (ACFA).

“The Aged Care Financing Authority is a statutory authority that consults with consumers, the aged care and finance sectors in order to provide Government with independent advice on funding and financing issues in aged care,” Minister Wyatt said.

“I welcome the appointment of new members Louise Biti, Mike Rungie and Susan Emerson. Their expertise and perspectives will ensure a wide range of stakeholder views will continue to be considered in the advice the Authority provides.”

Louise Biti is the Director of Age Care Steps and joins the Authority with more than 22 years’ experience as a financial services technical specialist. Mike Rungie is the former CEO of the ACH Group, a not-for-profit organisation promoting opportunities and services to support good lives for older people; while Susan Emerson is the Director of Care Environments and Service Strategy at Helping Hand Aged Care and chairs the Australian College of Nursing’s Expert Advisory Group on Ageing.

All three have been appointed as members of the Authority through to December 2019.

Minister Wyatt has also thanked the outgoing members for their service.

“I would like to acknowledge the important role played by Lee Thomas, Mary Patetsos and Julie Campbell-Bode at the Authority in recent years,” Minister Wyatt said. 

“Their guidance and advice, particularly in the development of the Authority’s report last year on issues affecting the financial performance of rural and remote providers, has been instrumental in helping both Government and the industry better understand the financial pressures facing aged care providers in these communities. 

“We have a world class aged care system in Australia, and the advice the Authority provides is helping to ensure our aged care services can better respond to the changing care needs of our ageing population.”
