Home Help for Seniors

on Wednesday, January 18, 2017

Many older Australians want to remain living in the comfort of their own homes, with their friends and family in their local community. However, as we get older, our needs tend to change. Sometimes we may find that we need a little extra help in order to maintain our health and lifestyle.

Home help services are available right across Australia – perfect for when you or your loved one need assistance with basic tasks such as meal preparation, shopping and getting to appointments.

Basic home help services are designed to help you maintain your independence and prevent premature admission into residential aged care.

Home help services include:

  • Basic home maintenance
  • Cleaning
  • Getting dressed
  • Grocery shopping
  • In-home nursing care
  • Meal delivery services
  • Meal preparation
  • Physiotherapy
  • Podiatry
  • Showering
  • Social support
  • Transport to and from appointments and social outings

In most states around Australia, home help services are offered under the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP). If you need a higher level of support in your home, you may be eligible to receive a Home Care Package.

All home help services are now offered under the Consumer Directed Care (CDC) model, which means you have more choice and flexibility when it comes to choosing your home help provider and the way your allocated funds are spent (if you receive financial assistance from the Government).

If you want access to home help services straight away and don’t need any financial assistance to fund your services, you have the option of funding your home help individually. All you need to do is search for home help providers in your area that offer Private In-Home Care and contact your chosen provider to get started!
