Sites Come Together for Friendly Competition and Christmas Cheer

on Friday, November 25, 2016

RSL Care Darlington has hosted their festive annual Bobs’ Christmas Party to celebrate the end of a successful year of bobs tournaments and friendly competition between surrounding aged care sites.

Each year RSL Care Darlington and RSL Care Winders along with seven other aged care sites in the Tweed and Gold Coast region play each other in the game of bobs and come together at the end of the year to tally up the score cards and announce the year’s winner.

Winders Diversional Therapist, Sue Todd said the sites have a fantastic relationship with each other and love collaborating with each other.

“It’s wonderful that we can come together for these types of events and activities, the residents love not only the opportunity for some friendly competition but a chance to make new friends and learn a new skill,” she said.

“I find it very rewarding to work with other Diversional Therapists as we can bounce ideas off each other, share resources and combine our events. It is really about what is best for the residents and they get a lot out of it.”

The winners of 2016 were Opal Kirra Residential Aged Care who narrowly beat Winders for the coveted first place and bragging rights for the year. The residents were presented with a trophy which they keep at their site for the entire year.

None of this seemed to matter once the party started; residents were treated to scrumptious Christmas treats, donned party hats and were entertained by Darlington’s star singer Chris who kept everyone up and dancing with renditions of ‘Love is in the Air’ and wide range of Christmas carols.

The residents even formed a conga line at one point, dancing in a circle around the entire hall and in fits of laughter. The sites are looking forward to another year of competition next year and the opportunity to make new friends and do it all over again.
