Dodo Celebrates Her 103rd Birthday

on Monday, November 14, 2016

RSL Care Darlington resident Doris Hall, lovingly known as Dodo celebrated her 103rd Birthday on 28 October in the residential aged care community surrounded by her friends and family.

She was completely spoilt with a giant decorated cake, beautiful ornate jewellery, flowers nearly as tall as she was and boxes of chocolates and was even serenaded by a singer who performed for all the residents and sang happy birthday to her.

Born in London, Dodo has lived through two World Wars, The Depression and moved halfway across the world coming to Australia in September, 1951 settling down with her family.

Diversional Therapist Kim Stokes said Dodo has a great love of ballroom dancing and led a very active and healthy lifestyle.

“She does have a bit of sweet tooth though, as you can see from the gigantic strawberries and cream sponge cake we have made for her,” Kim said.

“She is fiercely independent and she is always making us laugh – she told us when she was 99 years old she went on a plane ride for the first time and rode elephants in Thailand.

“For her 100th Birthday she was up and dancing in her high heels showing everybody that age is nothing but a number.”

Dodo’s daughter Sylvia Adams said her mother was a true inspiration to her and the rest of the family.

“I never thought I would be celebrating my mother’s 103rd Birthday but look here we are,” she said.

“I guess we have good genes in the family as many other members of our family have lived very long lives. I don’t know how I will fare at my 103rd Birthday but I guess we shall have to wait and see.”
