RSL Care Rowes Bay Celebrates Queensland Multicultural Month with Maori Day

on Wednesday, October 5, 2016

RSL Care Rowes Bay has celebrated Queensland Multicultural Month with a Maori Day complete with traditional dancing, haka and a hungi meal served.

The performers from Tikitiki Hangi entertained the aged care residents while teaching them about Maori culture, customs and traditions and putting on spectacular dances.

The celebrations were organised by Diversional Therapist Chezz Thompson who puts great emphasis on social and community based activities and events for her residents.

“The residents really enjoy these types of events, they love learning about a new cultures and it was especially lovely for them as there were children here singing and dancing as well,” she said.

“They absolutely light up when people come to visit them, it’s so important to them. We also try and encourage activities with plenty of food as the residents love to try new things.”

The themes for Queensland Multicultural Month were Value of Diversity, Arts and Culture, Elders and Storytelling.

Rowes Bay holds monthly multicultural days for residents in addition to the special Multicultural Month event.
