RSL Care Fernhill Welcomes Wototo Choir

The Watoto Children’s Choir from Uganda have performed for the residents of RSL Care Fernhill in a visually stunning and energetic spectacle enjoyed by an audience of over 200 people.  

The residents sang and clapped along to the upbeat and joyful music enjoying every moment of the high-energy performance.

Watoto is a holistic care program that was initiated as a response to the overwhelming number of orphaned and vulnerable children and women in Africa. The Wototo Children’s choir travel the world to raise awareness and funds for their cause.

Fernhill Diversional Therapist Alma Massie welcomed the choir back in 2013 with a wonderful response from her residents and was keen to have them perform again this year.

“The choir members are vulnerable children and orphans, who present music from the Watoto Church in Uganda. The children share stories of how their lives have changed and their call into a life of purpose,” she said.

“The children are so adorable, they walk around before and after the show greeting our residents and chatting to them. The youngest member of the choir is only seven-years-old yet so well behaved and eloquent for his age.

“It’s an absolute pleasure to have them here and we will try to have them back next time they are in Australia.” 

The experience of travelling with the choir benefits the children academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually, and is designed to train and equip them as future leaders.

The performance featured songs and energetic dances and was enjoyed by residents of the Residential Aged Care Site, Special Care Unit, Retirement Village and Day Therapy Centre along with staff, family and friends.

Fernhill activities are organised by a dynamic and collaborative team of Diversional Therapists who regularly hold events to include all areas of the site and cater to all abilities and interests of the residents.
