Fathers’ Day - a time to celebrate dads at Mercy Place Mandurah

on Thursday, September 1, 2016

As Fathers’ Day approaches, 88 year old Mercy Place Mandurah resident and great grandfather Harry English will be spending Sunday September 4 in good company.

This year, Harry will be celebrating the special day alongside his son Wayne and daughter Karen, his four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

The English family spans four generations, with patriarch Harry - a born and bred West Australian - born in Wagin, after which he moved to Boddington where he spent his savings purchasing agricultural land, subsequently spending the following 65 years as a farmer.

Wayne said the family had a special celebration planned at Mercy Place Mandurah to celebrate Fathers’ Day in Harry’s honour.

“Harry is a very important person in all of our lives; he shows so much love for his family, so we want to show him how much he is loved and respected,” Mr English said.

Mercy Place Mandurah Service Manager, Christina Venables, said Fathers’ Day presented a perfect opportunity to recognise fathers like Mr English.

“There are many amazing gentleman like Harry at Mercy Place Mandurah who have demonstrated selfless dedication, love and care for their family during their lifetime, and that’s why our team here try hard to recognise their contribution, not just on a particular day but throughout the year,” she said.

“On Fathers’ Day itself, Harry will be spending time celebrating with his family; they are very proud of him and his dedication as a father, grandfather and great-grandfather over many decades.”
