Assistant Minister Opens New IRT Lifestyle & Care Community

on Wednesday, September 28, 2016

IRT Group CEO Nieves Murray has welcomed last weeks official opening of IRT Woodlands by the Assistant Minister for Aged Care, Ken Wyatt AM, MP.

More than 150 people attended the event, including Fisher MP Andrew Wallace, local businesses involved in the design, construction and fit-out, and IRT residents and employees.

"A planting of two Illawarra Flametrees to symbolise IRT Woodland's Illawarra roots was a highlight of the day," Ms Murray said.

Located at Meridan Plains, IRT Woodlands is unique to IRT's portfolio of three Seniors Lifestyle Communities on the Sunshine Coast because it will enable residents to age in place in a 60-suite Care Centre.

"Co-locating Lifestyle villas and a residential Care Centre is an approach that works very well in other IRT Communities in NSW and the ACT," Ms Murray said. "We're delighted to bring this 'continuum of care' approach to Queensland's Sunshine Coast."

This means that IRT Woodlands lifestyle residents can potentially have a home for life, being supported with In-Home Care services to remain in their villas for as long as they wish to, with the security of knowing there is residential aged care on site."

Ms Murray said a continuum of care was becoming increasingly important to older Australians in considering a move to Lifestyle Communities.

"More Australians are living for longer and feeling well for longer, so it's more common for people to wait until their 70s to move into a Lifestyle Community, at which point their future care and support needs are front of mind," she said. "We're proud of the quality care and support now available at IRT Woodlands — we welcomed out first residents in April and it's fast becoming the Sunshine Coast's most vibrant Community."

The Care Centre is fully operational, Stage One Lifestyle residents are settled in and Stage Two villas are now on sale. Once all stages are complete, IRT Woodlands will offer 107 Lifestyle villas co-located with the Care Centre and shared community facilities, including a Community Centre, swimming pool, putting green, gym and theatre room.
