RSL Care Inverpine Cafe Oasis

on Thursday, March 17, 2016

The residents at RSL Care Inverpine, Murrumba Downs always know where they can go to get a good cuppa, and that’s at the Remembrance Café.

Opening on Remembrance Day in 2014, the café has been a complete success with the Inverpine community who enjoy spending time catching up with friends and family in the beautiful outdoor surrounds.

The café is the perfect place to grab a cappuccino and delicious slice of cake for morning tea.

Diversional Therapists Annie Van Kruining and Nina Reberger spent three years fundraising to purchase the coffee machine and build a servery and their amazing efforts have paid off with a charming and cosy café loved by all the residents.

Nina credits the success of the café to the amazing volunteers who have made the space special.

“This café has been the best idea we've ever hatched, everyone loves coming along and the residents enjoy being able to take their friends and family somewhere special without having to leave the site.”

“We were originally only able to open on Thursdays, however with the assistance of more volunteers we were able to open on Tuesdays as well and we will be able to operate on Wednesdays starting this month,” she said.

Annie loves the atmosphere of the café, she is always happy to see people enjoying themselves out there.

“The café is always buzzing, there is always chatter and laughter. It has helped people to socialise and it's a means of 'getting out and about' without having to travel too far.”

“You can enjoy a coffee and cake for a very reasonable price while you listen to music from the 'good old days'.”

The café is themed around Remembrance Day with red chairs, red flowers on the tables and two beautiful murals of poppies and a lone soldier taking pride of place.

All the money raised at the cafe is reinvested into the resources needed to keep it running, but has also helped the Inverpine team to raise money for new projects. The latest project will be the Community Garden and outdoor bowling green.
