Thelma Celebrates 109th Birthday Surrounded by Family

on Thursday, February 18, 2016

On Saturday 13 February, Thelma McLeod residing at Wearne Cottesloe, managed by Bethanie, celebrated her 109th birthday, surrounded by family including great grand daughters Georgina (9) and Hannah Walters (17) travelling from the Eastern States for the occasion.

Bethanie staff and some of the residents also joined in on the occasion.

Thelma was born in Coolgardie in 1907, at a time when Western Australia was home to only 255,000 people.  She then moved to Subiaco, where her father had a wholesale butchers business. Thelma met her husband Colin on a blind date in the 1920’s, and later married Colin in 1934, prior to his army posting in Port Hedland.

Thelma has five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Thelma has been residing at Wearne Cottesloe, managed by Bethanie, since 2001, and her son John McLeod, 75 years, attributes her long life to the great care she has received at the facility over the past 15 years.

“It is great to share such special moments with our residents, especially this sort of momentous achievement of Thelma turning 109. She’s an inspiration to all of us,” said Bethanie Manager Janeen Karsten.
