Australian Aged Care Rating System launches in Perth

on Tuesday, December 2, 2014

Over 50 delegates from the Western Australian aged care industry gathered in Perth last Tuesday for the state launch of the Australian Aged Care Rating System.

First presented in Melbourne on April 16, The Aged Care Rating System (ACRS) gives providers an independent assessment of their facilities to assist consumers who are weighing up their residential aged care alternatives.

Millennium Aged Care Placement Consultants and Ansell Strategic has partnered with Aged Care Online to front the initiative.

The system measures the quality of the aged care facilities in terms of physical form, resident services, resident input and staff culture.

ACRS and Aged Care Online managing director Ben Hannemann said he is confident the new system will provide considerable assistance to consumers in weighing up their residential care alternatives.

“Finding a suitable aged care home for someone is a stressful, complex task and the introduction of the Aged Care Ratings System to assist in evaluating provider options is something we see as overdue,” Mr Hannemann said.

In Melbourne and Sydney, the ACRS was piloted with the BlueCross group and SummitCare respectively. Both providers have since had all their facilities rated under the new system.

Aegis Aged Care Group is the first aged care provider in Western Australia to trial ACRS.

Aegis Aged Care Group residential services manager Richard Cross said the organisation is proud to be leading the new initiative for residential aged care in Western Australia.

“As the largest private operator in this state, Aegis has accounted for the majority of new facilities over the last eight years,” Mr Cross said.

“We view this rating assessment as a vital and credible marketing tool that will signify the quality of individual care facilities and serve as a guide for the entire community.”

Macquarie Business Banking is a proud sponsor of the Aged Care Rating System and hosted the event at their offices on St Georges Terrace.
